The second Montevallo Arts Fest, April 11-12, 2008, was even better than the first. A few photos of the day are featured here.

Friday afternoon, April 11, featured authors Mary Wilhoit and David Morgan reading and signing their books at Eclipse Book Store and the House of Serendipity.

On Friday night folk vocalist Mae Robertson performed at 7:00 p.m. in the Parnell Memorial Library Theatre, followed by a reception honoring all the artists and participants in the 2008 Montevallo Arts Festival. After many years as a merchant in the Northeast, Mae Robertson, returned to her native Alabama. She has now recorded five CD’s. A folk singer and acoustic artist, she first recorded music for children, but more recently has recorded music intended for a grown-up audience.

On Saturday, April 12, over 50 artists displayed and sold their work. A cash award was given for the best of the art show. See a complete list of winners for the 2008 Fest.

The two stages in the park featured a variety of performing artists, including The Pillars, Will Kimbrough and Henri's Notions.

The Pillars, a black a capella gospel group from Birmingham features several members in their 70s and 80s who have sung in a variety of gospel groups dating back to the 1930s, 40s and 50s. They have recently sung at the American Gospel Quartet Convention.

Will Kimbrough, a native of Mobile who now resides and records in Nashville, has been performing throughout America for over a decade. A virtuoso guitarist, he has performed with Todd Snyder, Rodney Crowell, and Jimmy Buffett. He is also an excellent song writer. (See www.willkimbrough.com)

Henri's Notions, a five-member band based in Tuscaloosa, plays a mixture of Celtic and American music, from hard-driving jigs and reels to soft ballads. They have played all over this country, and just this year performed at the Edinburgh Music Festival. They have opened for Bob Dylan, Richie Havens, and the Tannahill Weavers, a premiere Celtic group. (See www.henrisnotions.com)

Special attractions for children included an art show featuring work by students at Montevallo Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. There were also entertainment and art-related activities for children.

Tim Tingle conducted a tour of Tinglewood on Saturday afternoon. A full schedule of events is available in printable format.

Many of the visual artists who displayed their work at last year's fest returned in 2008. Among the artists who displayed their work in both 2007 and 2008 were Penny Arnold, Michael Brown, Andrew Cost, Jeanette Crew, James Cummings, Raejean Flatt, Johanna Jenkins, Michael O'Shell, and Tim Tingle. The 2008 Fest also welcomed many new artists.
